Standalone EXE Locker

Standalone EXE Locker — Free Download. Protection and encryption of exe files
Standalone EXE Locker is a software application designed to apply password protection and encryption to individual files, transforming them into self-contained executables. These locked files can be unlocked on any Windows computer without needing to install the main application, by entering the correct password. The tool employs the Triple DES encryption algorithm to secure data. It integrates with Windows Explorer and supports command-line use, providing a method to restrict access to confidential documents.

  • Creation of standalone executables. The main function converts any file into an independent Windows executable (.exe). This resulting file contains the original encrypted file and a built-in unlocker. Running the generated .exe file displays a window requesting a password to decrypt and extract the original content. This feature eliminates the dependency on additional software on the target system, facilitating the secure distribution of files.
  • Triple DES encryption. For data protection, the application implements the Triple DES (Data Encryption Standard) symmetric encryption algorithm. This algorithm applies DES encryption three times to each data block, increasing cryptographic strength compared to standard DES. The original file's data is encrypted before being embedded into the executable, ensuring that without the correct password, the content remains unreadable and secure.
  • Protection click mechanism. An additional security layer is configured, requiring a specific click sequence on the locked executable's interface. The user defines the exact number of clicks and the position on the screen (like top-left or bottom-right) where they must be performed. Only after completing this sequence correctly is the password input field shown, hindering access through automation or basic decompilation.
  • Windows Explorer integration. After installation, the application adds options to the right-click context menu of Windows Explorer. This allows selecting one or multiple files, right-clicking, and choosing the option to lock them directly, generating the protected executables in a designated location without needing to open the application's main interface.
  • Drag-and-drop support. The main graphical interface of Standalone EXE Locker accepts drag-and-drop operations. Users can select files in Windows Explorer and drag them directly onto the application's workspace to quickly add them to the processing list, streamlining the workflow for multiple files.
  • Batch processing of folders and lists. The tool allows adding an entire folder, processing all files contained within it. Additionally, it supports importing a list file (e.g., a text or Excel file) containing the paths to the documents to be protected. This function is designed for scenarios requiring locking a large number of files systematically.
  • Command-line use. It includes full support for operations via command-line parameters. This enables the inclusion of file locking and unlocking in scripts, batch files (.bat), or scheduled Windows tasks, allowing automation of security processes without interacting with the graphical interface.
  • Automatic folder watching. The monitoring feature observes one or more user-specified folders. When a new file is detected in a watched folder, the application automatically processes it and generates a locked executable version, according to predefined parameters. It is useful for environments where sensitive files are generated regularly in specific locations.
  • Secure destruction of the original. During the locking process, the user can activate the secure deletion of the original source file. This option overwrites the disk space occupied by the original file with random data before deleting it, preventing content recovery using file restoration utilities.
  • File name obfuscation. Within the locked executable, the original file name can be obfuscated or replaced with a generic identifier. This measure prevents someone examining the executable (e.g., with resource analysis tools) from inferring the nature of the protected content based solely on the internal file name.
  • Advanced execution restrictions. For the generated executables, multiple access restrictions based on conditions can be configured. These include specific date and time windows for allowing unlocking, restriction by Windows username, network domain name, computer name, or a unique hardware signature of the machine. The file will only unlock if the environment meets all established conditions.
  • Multilingual interface. The application is translated into 39 different languages. The user interface automatically changes according to the Windows operating system's regional settings, or the language can be selected manually within the application, making it accessible to international users.
  • Password protection for the main application. A password can be set to access the main interface of Standalone EXE Locker. This prevents unauthorized use of the software to create new locked files or modify settings, adding an access control layer to the security manager itself.
  • Unlock and delete mode. It offers a specific operating mode where the locked executable, after being unlocked with the correct password, runs the original file in a hidden mode (without showing its window) and securely deletes it from the system when the associated application closes. It is intended for temporary viewing of content without leaving a local trace.
  • Customization of the executable interface. It allows modifying aspects of the graphical interface displayed by the locked .exe file when run. This can include customizing icons, texts, background images, or colors, allowing companies or individuals to apply their branding or make the unlocker more discreet.

The project began its development several years before 2010, with early versions published on specialized forums and software portals. The application is primarily written in Delphi, a programming language and development environment that generates native code for Windows, which contributes to its fast performance and the generation of compact executables.
