Total Network Inventory

Total Network Inventory — Free Download. Network audit and Asset management
Total Network Inventory (TNI) is an application for equipment auditing and network inventory management in corporate environments. The software centrally scans all devices connected to the network, collecting detailed information about hardware, operating systems, installed software, users, and configurations, storing it in a unified database for analysis and reporting.

  • Cross-platform network scanning. The software performs device scans on Windows, macOS, Linux, FreeBSD, and ESX/ESXi-based systems. It does not require permanent agent installation on remote computers for basic data collection, instead using administrator credentials. It allows defining scan targets by IP ranges, specific computers, or entire Active Directory structures.
  • Centralized inventory management. All collected information is stored in a centralized TNI database. Each computer is represented as an individual small-sized file, facilitating backup and portability operations. Assets can be organized into customizable groups, with added notes, inventory tags, costs, and purchase dates.
  • Report generation. This function allows creating detailed tabular reports including hardware, software, user, and configuration data. Reports support multiple export formats, such as XLSX, PDF, RTF, CSV, or HTML. Scheduled tasks can be configured for the automatic generation and sending of these reports via email or to an FTP server.
  • Change Log. The system automatically compares each new scan of a computer with the previous one and generates a detailed log of modifications. It records software installation, updates, or removal, hardware changes, service adjustments, and hotfix application. This history allows auditing the configuration evolution of each asset on the network.
  • Task Scheduler. This function automates recurring operations like network scans, Active Directory synchronizations, and report generation. It allows configuring complex time triggers, such as daily, weekly tasks, or the first Monday of each month. It ensures inventory data remains up-to-date without constant manual intervention.
  • Visual Network Map. The Professional version includes an editor to create visual maps of network topology. It allows dragging and dropping assets and groups from the storage, organizing them, and connecting them with links. It supports customization with shapes, colors, background images, and representing different company sites or segments.
  • Hardware Monitoring. On Windows systems, TNI can collect data from hardware sensors during scans. It monitors metrics like component temperatures, fan speeds, power supply statuses, and disk space. The Alerts feature notifies about critical conditions to prevent failures.
  • Active Directory Synchronization. For domain networks, the software can import and synchronize its structure with Active Directory. This automatically reflects the list of all domain users and computers in TNI. Synchronization can be scheduled to run periodically to keep information up-to-date.
  • Barcode Management. TNI allows associating existing (manufacturer) barcodes or generating new ones from templates to identify assets. It supports linear and two-dimensional formats, like QR or PDF417. Finding a computer using an external barcode scanner speeds up its location in the database.
  • Multi-user Collaboration. The centralized TNI database is designed for concurrent access. By sharing the storage folder on the network, multiple administrators can work with the same inventory data simultaneously. This enables collaborative editing and division of auditing tasks.
  • Monitoring Statistics. Beyond real-time monitoring, TNI Professional collects historical data from hardware sensors. It allows analyzing trends of metrics like temperature or disk space for any selected period. Chart visualization helps identify potential performance issues or component degradation.
  • Wizards and Alerts. The system can be configured to execute automatic actions or notify the administrator when specific conditions are detected. Examples include alerts for low disk space, excessive temperatures, or the detection of unauthorized software. It functions as a proactive monitoring system for the IT infrastructure.

The Total Network Inventory program is developed by the company Softinventive Lab. The first commercial version of the software was released in the late 2000s. The application is written primarily in the Delphi programming language, using native Windows libraries that ensure high performance in network operations and data management.
