  • Asynchronous XML Validation. The editor validates XML documents in real time against XSD, DTD, Relax NG and Schematron. Supported processors are Xerces, MSXML and Jing. Wizards are provided to associate the document with a schema. Continuous validation highlights structural errors and data type mistakes during typing.
  • XML Catalogs. This function redirects schemas located on the Internet to local files on the hard disk. Redirection accelerates validation of XML documents and improves reliability by avoiding external network dependencies. Catalogs are configured using standard OASIS catalog files.
  • XML Tag Completion. Based on XSD, DTD and Relax NG, the system suggests element names, attribute names and attribute values. Closing tags are inserted automatically. Annotations defined in the schema are shown as tooltips, providing contextual assistance without manual searches.
  • li>XML Refactoring. Modifies the structure of XML documents without risk of altering text accidentally. Example: changing all <p> elements to <div> while preserving textual content. Refactoring operations avoid simple search systems that would corrupt strings like "simple" by changing unintended parts. Refactoring works at the XML node level.
  • XML Formatter. Controls indentation, splitting of long lines, whitespace removal, handling of empty elements and attribute placement. Respects the xml:space attribute and allows overriding this behavior for specific elements. Format configuration is customizable per project.
  • XML Generator from Schema. Creates sample XML documents from XSD, DTD or Relax NG. Defines inclusion of optional elements, optional attributes and attribute values. Includes reverse XSD generator from multiple XML files, CSV to XML conversion and Excel to XML conversion. Enables automation of conversions using Windows Task Scheduler.
  • XML Folding. Facilitates navigation in large XML documents by collapsing and expanding hierarchical blocks of elements. Folding recognizes nested structure and allows hiding entire sections to concentrate on specific parts of the file.
  • Non-English Languages Support. Complete handling of XML files with French, Russian, Japanese and Chinese characters. The editor preserves UTF-8 and UTF-16 encoding without corruption of multibyte characters. Validation and transformation operations respect international character sets.
  • Remote Editing FTPS, SFTP and WebDAV. Opens and saves XML files directly on remote servers using secure protocols. FTPS, SFTP and WebDAV connections are integrated without external software. Remote files are edited with all local validation and formatting functions.
  • Optimized Handling of Large Files. The editor opens XML files up to 1 GByte or larger without losing validation, completion and formatting capabilities. Initial loading of large files uses incremental in-memory processing. Editing response remains smooth during manipulation of extensive nodes.
  • Outline View. Displays all elements and attributes of the XML document in a hierarchical panel. The outline updates in real time during typing. Selecting an element in the outline automatically positions the cursor on the corresponding node inside the editor.
  • Jump to Element Definition in Schema. From any element in the XML document, the editor allows jumping directly to its definition in the associated XML Schema. The function locates the corresponding <xs:element> in the XSD file, saving manual searches.
  • Breadcrumbs. A bar shows the full path from the root node to the current XML node. Each segment of the path is interactive: clicking selects that element in the editor. The tool accelerates orientation in deeply nested documents.

XMLBlueprint was created by the independent company XMLBlueprint Software. Development started in the year 2005. The application is written in the C++ programming language using the Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC) framework to guarantee native performance on Windows. The original developers are specialists in XML technologies and schema processing. The software has maintained continuous update cycles for more than eighteen years. Early versions supported basic validation with XSD and XSLT 1.0; later versions added Relax NG, Schematron, XSLT 2.0/3.0 and XPath 3.1.
