  • Cover Flow View. The main feature of the software. It displays files and folders in a three-dimensional carousel with fluid animations, reflections, and cover artwork rendering for images and documents. The view responds to scrolling with trackpad gestures or the mouse wheel, maintaining a three-dimensional perspective of the file system items.
  • Multiple View Modes. The program includes several file organization modes: Icons, List, Columns, Grid, Masonry, Dual View, and Quad View. Each mode presents the directory data with a distinct layout, optimized for different management tasks.
  • Dual Panel Mode. Offers two independent file browsers placed side-by-side. This configuration allows for drag-and-drop operations, content comparison, and transferring items between file system locations without needing to open additional windows.
  • Quick Look Integration. Enables instant file preview by pressing the Spacebar. This function activates the macOS system quick viewer to display the contents of documents, images, videos, and audio files without opening the associated application.
  • Full File System Navigation. Provides access to the entire macOS file system hierarchy, including mounted volumes, network drives, and system directories. The structure is presented with an interface similar to the native Finder.
  • Sidebar Navigation. Includes a sidebar with shortcuts to frequent locations, iCloud Drive, removable devices, and folders marked as favorites. The sidebar can be shown or hidden according to user preferences.
  • Sorting and Searching. Items within a directory can be sorted by name, date modified, size, or file type. A search field filters the results in real-time as query text is typed.
  • Clipboard Operations. Supports standard editing commands: Copy, Cut, Paste, and Duplicate files. Commands are executed using standard macOS keyboard shortcuts (Cmd+C, Cmd+V, Cmd+D) or from the contextual menu.
  • Contextual Menus. Secondary-clicking on a file or folder displays a menu with available operations: open, get info, compress, rename, move to Trash, and share. The menu options depend on the type of item selected.
  • Type-Ahead Search. When you start typing text with the keyboard, focus jumps to the first item whose name matches the entered characters. This feature allows for quick navigation in directories with many items without needing to use the mouse.
  • Integration with Everything Search. Incorporates an indexed file system search engine for instant results. The function indexes file names in real-time and allows system-wide queries, displaying results sorted by configurable criteria.
  • Scroll Synchronization Between View Modes. When switching between different display modes (Cover Flow, Grid, List, etc.), the scroll position remains centered on the currently selected item. This preserves the navigation context during the transition.
  • Inline Renaming Fix. The process of renaming a file directly in the list or Cover Flow view has been improved. The software filters system notifications to respond only to the active text field, avoiding interference during editing.
  • Sorting in Large Directories. The sorting algorithm has been optimized for folders containing thousands of items. All items are loaded and sorted before being displayed in the interface, eliminating visual jumps and subsequent reorganizations during the initial display.
  • Selection Highlight Fix. In Cover Flow view, the selected item is displayed with the system accent color when the view has input focus. This improves the visual identification of the active item within the three-dimensional carousel.

CoverFlowFinder was developed by Elliot Tate. Its development began in 2023 in response to the removal of the Cover Flow view from the macOS Finder in versions after macOS Mojave. The program is written in the Swift programming language, utilizing the native Cocoa and AppKit frameworks for the user interface.
