• Zen Mode. Pressing the Tab key hides all panels and focuses only on the image. To exit, press Tab or Escape again. This mode removes visual distractions and maximizes the area dedicated to viewing multimedia content.
• Always-visible search bar. Filters images in the filmstrip instantly. Matches are highlighted in the thumbnail labels. The search operates on filenames and basic metadata, showing only items that match the entered criterion.
• Navigator minimap. When zooming into an image, a minimap appears showing the current position of the visible area over the full image. Dragging the rectangle inside the minimap moves the main view precisely.
• Archive browsing. ZIP, RAR, CBZ, CBR and 7-Zip archives open like folders. Browse comic books or archived photos directly without extraction. Pressing Back returns to the parent folder while maintaining navigation history.
• Protected folders. Any folder can be locked with a four-digit PIN. Protected folders are visually highlighted and require authentication to open. This feature provides privacy without full-disk encryption or external tools.
• Inline rename & folder management. Rename files with F2 key directly from the interface. Create, rename or delete subfolders with right-click. Manage your library without opening the operating system file explorer. Operations immediately affect the real file system.
• Range & multi selection. Shift+click to select a continuous range of files. Ctrl+click to toggle selection of individual items. Copy or move a batch of files to any destination folder in two clicks. Batch actions preserve original filename structure and metadata.
• Metadata editing. Edit EXIF and IPTC metadata directly in the image viewer. No external tool needed. Changes save to the original files, and updated information becomes visible immediately after modifying fields such as date, description, author or keywords.

Pix42 was created by DemaHub, a development team specializing in multimedia tools for Windows and macOS. Development began in 2022 with the goal of building a unified browser that eliminates dependency on multiple applications for different file types. The program is written primarily in C++ to maximize performance in RAW decoding and parallel thumbnail loading. The first publicly available digitally signed version launched in 2023 for Windows 10, Windows 11 and macOS with Apple Silicon, already including support for next-generation formats such as JPEG XL and AVIF, as well as the ability to open compressed archives as if they were normal directories.
