gFTP was originally created by Brian Masney in 1998. Initial development was done in C language using the GTK+ library for the graphical interface. In 2015, the project was revived by several contributors who migrated the code to GitHub and began applying patches and updates. The current version includes security fixes and compatibility with newer versions of GTK.
