Support for multiple formats. Displays JPG, PNG, GIF, SVG, PSD, KRA, XCF, TGA, WEBP, AVIF, and other common image formats without the need for conversion.
Always-on-Top mode. Allows pinning the viewer window above other applications, useful for keeping reference images accessible while working.
Protection mode. Prevents accidental closing of the window when used as a reference, requiring confirmation to close the application.
Zoom overview. Shows a navigation thumbnail when the image is zoomed in, making it easier to orient within high-resolution images.
M3U8 playlist support. Loads playlists in M3U8 format containing image paths, allowing the creation of custom galleries.

Pineapple Pictures was initially developed by BLumia in Python using Qt for the graphical interface. The project began in 2020 as a minimalist alternative to more complex viewers. Starting from 2023, the stable version fully migrated to Qt 6, dropping support for Qt 5. The source code is distributed under an open-source license on GitHub, where it receives community contributions. The implementation of features such as M3U8 support has been made possible thanks to user sponsorship.
