• Automatic grouping by category. The function analyzes open windows and organizes them into groups based on the application or document type. The user defines rules so that, for example, all text editors are grouped without manual intervention.
• Support for UWP (Modern) apps. Unlike previous versions, this fork allows adding tabs to applications downloaded from the Microsoft Store, including their full integration with the native title bar.
• Multiple monitor support. The tab system works independently on each screen. Grouped windows can be moved between monitors while maintaining the tab structure.
• Integration with virtual desktops. WindowTabs respects the virtual desktop functionality of Windows 10 and 11. Tabs remain on the corresponding virtual desktop without interfering with the system's native management.
• Complete customization of color themes. The user can modify the appearance of the tabs using custom themes. Settings are included for the background color, text, active tabs, and the bar border.
• Configurable keyboard shortcuts. The application provides key combinations to navigate between tabs, move windows to an existing group, or ungroup items without using the mouse. All combinations are reassignable.
• Manual grouping via drag and drop. The user can combine windows by dragging a tab onto another window. This action merges both into a single tabbed container.
• Bar display options. The tab bar can be placed at the top, bottom, left, or right of the window. It can also be set to auto-hide when not in use.
• Tab separation and closing. Each tab includes controls to detach it from the group (creating a separate window) or to close the application directly from the tab.
• Compatibility mode with administrator applications. The program handles windows run with elevated privileges, allowing standard user windows and administrator windows to be mixed in the same group.
• Portability and INI file configuration. The utility can be run in portable mode. All configuration, including grouping rules and themes, is saved in an .ini file that can be transferred between computers.
• Exclusion rule system. The user can specify applications that should not display tabs or that should not be grouped automatically, using configurable white and black lists.

El desarrollo de WindowTabs se inició en 2018 por el equipo de Standard Software. La versión original ganó popularidad como una solución para añadir pestañas a cualquier ventana del sistema. En 2023, se publicó un fork modernizado bajo la licencia MIT que reescribió gran parte de la lógica para dar soporte a las nuevas versiones de Windows. El programa base está escrito en C++ y la interfaz gráfica utiliza la API de Windows sin frameworks externos.
