  • gRPC Protocol. Implements the same gRPC-based communication protocol as Warpinator on Linux, ensuring cross-platform compatibility.
  • mDNS Discovery. Uses zeroconf/mDNS for automatic detection of devices on the local network without manual configuration.
  • Permission Emulation. Due to differences between NTFS and Linux file systems, Winpinator emulates the permission system to maintain compatibility.
  • Native Interface. Developed with wxWidgets to provide a native Windows look and feel.
  • Explorer Integration. Supports drag and drop of files and appears in the "Send to" context menu of Windows Explorer.
  • Secure Encryption. Uses the sodium library for RSA encryption with symmetric group keys, protecting transfers.
  • Key Generation. Employs OpenSSL to generate secure PEM keys that authenticate devices on the network.
  • Transfer History. Stores a persistent record of all transfers in an SQLite3 database.
  • Data Compression. Implements compression via zlib to optimize transfer speed for large files.
  • Toast Notifications. Displays system notifications using the wintoast library to inform about completed transfers.
  • Key Conversion. Uses cpp-base64 to convert binary keys to text format and vice versa, facilitating storage and transmission.
  • Firewall Configuration. Requires specific adjustments in the Windows firewall to allow communication between devices on the network.

Winpinator was developed as an independent project to bring Warpinator functionality to Windows. Winpinator uses the following libraries: wxWidgets for the native user interface, gRPC and protobuf for device communication, sodium and OpenSSL for security, SQLite3 for persistent storage, zlib for compression, and wintoast for notifications. The main goal was to create a tool with a native Windows look and feel while maintaining compatibility with the Warpinator protocol to allow transfers between different operating systems.
