  • Unlimited panels. The application allows the creation of an unlimited number of panels. Each panel functions as a separate space for organizing shortcuts. Panels are generated from the application menu and managed individually. This feature enables extensive categorization of system items.
  • Edge anchoring. Panels can be fixed to any edge of the screen. Options include the top, bottom, left, and right. Fixing is done through a specific configuration menu for each panel. Positioning is persistent between work sessions.
  • Floating mode. Panels can operate in an unfixed mode. In this mode, the panel remains in a specific position on the screen. The user moves the panel by dragging its title bar. Floating mode keeps the panel visible over other windows.
  • Dimension adjustment. The size of the icons within the panel is configurable. The adjustment modifies both the icon and the associated text. Panel dimensions automatically adapt to the content. Changes are applied in real-time.
  • Visual themes. The application includes light and dark color schemes. The theme is selected for each panel independently. The dark scheme features icons with high contrast. The light scheme maintains readability in bright environments.
  • Execution indicator. Running programs show a visual indicator on the panel. The indicator is a dot located below the corresponding icon. Programs can be fixed to the panel even when not running. This function provides monitoring of application status.
  • Add by dragging. Any system item can be added to a panel by dragging. Valid items include applications, files, folders, and links. The operation is performed from the Finder to the panel area. An animation confirms the successful addition of the item.
  • Manual reordering. The position of icons within a panel is modified by dragging. The user selects an icon and moves it to the new location. Adjacent icons shift to create space. The order is saved automatically.
  • Always-visible panel. Panels remain in the top layer of the interface. Visibility is maintained over windows of other applications. Windows in full-screen mode temporarily hide the panels. Upon exiting full-screen mode, the panels reappear.
  • Custom naming. Each panel can receive an identifying name. The name is assigned in the panel's properties window. Naming helps distinguish panels with similar functions. The name appears in the title bar of the floating panel.
  • Start with system. The application can be configured to launch during system startup. The option is activated in the program's general settings. Panels and their configurations are restored automatically. This behavior ensures immediate availability after login.
  • Contextual menu. A secondary click on any icon displays a contextual menu. The menu includes actions such as open, show in Finder, or remove. Options vary depending on the type of item selected. The menu streamlines frequent operations.

The development of Multi Dock began during the creation of MacPlus Software. The project started as a functional extension to manage multiple shortcut spaces. The first public version was released in 2020. The programming language used for development is Swift, with Objective-C interfaces for system components. The code leverages native macOS frameworks such as AppKit and Core Animation.
